I was reading through the Christmas story the other day and a thought occurred to me. How do I share the Good News? Do I share it as the shepherd did or how Daniel did? Now you may be thinking “Daniel? Why Daniel?” Let me explain.
The Wise Men “from the east came” (Matthew 2:1). Now how did these people from the east know who Jesus was? When everyone around Jesus was considered “God’s people” (Exodus 7:16), have no idea what was happening in their own village? It is said that the Wise Men are from around the same area that Daniel was taken to when the Israelites were taken captive. Reading Daniel it tells of all the Prophecies that he shared about the future Messiah. And over 500 years later the Wise Men were still waiting and looking for the sign.
Then there are the Shepherds “And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night” (Luke 2:8) The fields nearby area outside of Bethlehem. They are told by angels about the Messiah being “17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.” They were amazed but that is where it stops. Why I say that, is that when the Wise Men arrive, no one knows what they are talking about.
Now here is my question for you: Do you share the Good News like Daniel or the Shepherds? Or do you just tell them as you run on by to where it is amazing, but forgotten?
